Don't Buy Your Hair Products From a Drug Store

What is the first thing most people will notice about you?  YOUR HAIR!!!

Not your body. Not your shoes. Your Hair!  So why not make it look the best it can?!

Some people are not interested in spending a lot of money for professional products. Instead, you run to the nearest CVS and pick up shampoo, conditioner and maybe even a styling product, product with wax, alcohol or talc based. All these products leave your hair feeling dry, filmy and dull. So all the money that you just spent on your beautiful rich brown glaze or ombre is now looking lifeless and damaged. What a waste.

Now I know that it can be tricky when you walk into a CVS type store and see professional products for sale. This is what we call a diversion. ;) You don't know what's really in these products, who touched or tampered with them or even if the contents inside are what they really say is inside! Next time you see these products, don't buy them. Seriously....

Let us (or your local stylist), help you help your hair. We want it to look good. We can customize the perfect regime for your hair needs. Think of us as your hair doctor.

We have an amazing line of products available to purchase anytime. We even have amazing treatments that you can have done to your hair before it gets styled or colored. Beautiful, shiny, healthy hair can be yours whenever you're ready for it. Let your hair be your best accessory!

The Perfect Smokey Eye

From my experience of working in a salon, I've noticed that there are two things a client requests upon getting settled at a station, a cup of coffee and a magazine. These are two things that are pertinent to a successful salon visit.

While enjoying your freshly brewed cup of joe, do you ever flip through your favorite gossip magazine and find yourself awwing over the fashion trends of Hollywood's most glamorous celebrities? If so, you're probably saying "I wish I could do my makeup like that". Why can't you? The most desired of makeup applications is the ever so famous smokey eye. I'm here to tell you it's as easy as 1,2,3.

Here are your three shadow ingredients to create a perfect smokey eye. All you need is a white or pale translucent shadow, a silver shadow, and a black shadow to complete this timeless look. I like to use MAC eyeshadows because of their lasting pigment. Begin by applying a light eye cream to your entire eye area to prep your skin and follow with priming your eye lid with your favorite eye primer. (Mine is Prime Time by Bare Essentials.) Priming will insure a long lasting makeup application. Continue by applying your white shadow to the corner or tear duct of your eye with a small rounded brush and follow along your brow bone to the length of your eyebrow. Next, generously apply your silver shadow to the entire lid this time using a full coverage shadow brush. The silver will act as your base color and blending aid. Finally, using a pointed or tapered shadow brush, apply your black shadow starting at the middle of the lash line and drag while slightly shimmying your brush to the top outer part of your lid. Then with whatever black shadow is left on your brush, use the tip and follow alongside the crease of your lid to the center a few times. This should create a "V" type look. Perfect your application by blending your white to your silver, your silver to your black and the black into your crease. IMPORTANT: Blending is key! Last finish by lining your top lid and the outward corner of your bottom lashes.

Let's not forget the finishing touch of a fresh bold coat of mascara (preferably 2 coats). Voila! You just created a sexy new look to enhance your already beautiful eyes in a matter of minutes. Become your very own personal makeup artist with this tutorial and people will be asking how to get your look. Stay beautiful!

The Struggle To Keep Weight Off

How does one lose weight when there is constantly food around?  Over the holidays, people come together with friends and family with food as the focus. Cookies, cakes, chocolate are the staples to bring along. Over this holiday season, I gained 12 pounds. It has taken me six weeks to take off 13.5 pounds. Weight Watchers has played a major role for me in the past 6 weeks.

I am now aware of what I need to be eating to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Choosing fruits and vegetables over the sugar snacks like cakes, ice cream, chocolate and potato chips are the way to go. Trust me when I say that I still eat those indulgent foods. I just have become more aware of how unhealthy these choices are on a day to day basis. (Once in a while it's a nice treat!)

Have you ever had a food addiction?  Struggle with weight? I have my whole life and now it is time to take control and get healthy because there is a long life ahead of me!

The first thing I did was join Weight Watchers. Second, write down everything that goes in to my mouth. This is the real reason why Weight Watchers has worked for me. I write down everything to be more aware of what is healthy for my body and what is not. Third, portion control. The amount of food that a serving should be is probably a third or more of what people eat in one meal. Eating healthy is easy when you are focused and you have a goal to work towards. My next goal is to hit 20 pounds down, than 25, and so on. I wake up 20 minutes early daily to prepare my breakfast, lunch, and sometimes even my dinner so that I am prepared to face the day. I can control what I am eating and don't leave myself room for indulgence. Every healthy choice I make is the real success and the weight coming off will just be the bonus!!

Tips for the Perfect Blowout

At Head Rush we stand by saying "everyone looks better with a blowout". There's a reason behind that. Each time your hair is done you feel like you can conquer anything. Here's the thing, we live in a world filled with commercials and advertisements of miracle beauty products that half of us don't know how to use. This is why when I do a blowout, I love to educate my clients on how to do it at home. Of course there's no experience like the salon, but at least in a busy world it's nice to know some stylists can share tips and advice to keep your hair looking beautiful.

TIP #1: KMS Humidity spray is one of my essentials (especially during the humid NY summer season). It helps seal shine and literally blocks out frizz.

TIP #2: I love Velcro rollers! I roll them in and do my makeup every morning. It gives me body for the day. I lightly spray Moroccan hairspray before I let them out.

TIP #3: Another tip similar to tip #2, good ol' fashion hot rollers! Great for a fast bouncy look and especially good if you don't have time to blowout your hair but look like you did! I use KMS Freeshape spray on dry hair before putting in the rollers....than shake it out. Freeshape spray is also excellent for curling irons and wave irons. The spray can make an type of hair hold a curl.

TIP #4: When blowing your hair at home, always use a nozzle and a ceramic brush (for temp control).  Also, try to use a smoother to protect your hair (Kerestase Nectar Thermique is great).

TIP #5: NEVER use hot tools with wet hair!

TIP #6: If you have bangs, the smaller the brush, the curvier the bubble!

TIP #7: To blowout hair, the bigger the brush, the faster you go, the smoother your hair will get.

TIP #8: KMS Makeover Spray is a great choice to keep the blowout a few extra days (it actually absorbs oils to keep hair fresh looking). Just spray by the root, especially at your part, blow with dryer fast and you're good to go!

TIP #9: Always sleep with hair in a high ponytail after a blowout to really make it last. Use a thick scrunchy to best hold without leaving any dents in the hair.

Any questions please comment below (I would love to help you out).

To beautiful blowouts!  ;)

Operation Inked Magazine

A mission we will accomplish. Just a matter of when......

Erica and Christine have an opportunity to POSSIBLY (fingers crossed) be featured in Inked Magazine.  If there's one thing to know about the two owners of Head Rush, it's that they have a love for tattoos (and both have a lot on their bodies).

It's stereotypical to think that one tatted up is not successful, that they could never be the owners of a gorgeous hair salon. Think again.

So, first step we have to provide Inked Magazine pictures for one of the creative editors. We called a great friend and photographer to get the job done, George Stoff.

I am beyond impressed with how well the pictures came out. George is an amazing photographer and I highly recommend him if you need a shoot done.  He takes his time to make sure the end result is perfecto. (See for yourself below.)

Next step we submit the below pictures, and now we just sit back and stay positive for that return phone call.

While we wait enjoy the pictures below by the amazing George Stoff.

Here is his info:

Have a great weekend!!

New Year. New You. New Extensions?!

Nothing can make a woman feel better than having good hair! You can have the worst outfit on, old shoes, no makeup, but if your hair looks good, you feel good! So why not change it up for the new year and start with some extensions. Head Rush now offers three types of extensions: clip in, beads, and the new tape in.

Now I have had EVERY kind of extension, but one of my favorite as of right now are our tape-ins. I am slightly obsessed with them! If I could they would be everywhere. If you haven't seen mine, come in and see for yourself how amazing they are! I am basing my opinion not just what I think, but what clients have told me over the years.

You don't feel tape in extensions. You can not see them. (That's a good thing!) A lot of clients had trouble with clip in and the placement of them. They DO NOT matte and get knotty. BIG plus here. If you have had bead or fusion extension you know what I'm talking about. The hair is good for one year.
Awesome again. You get touch ups around every three months but you don't have to make that huge financial commitment as with fusion ones every time they get matted or one falls out. Tape in extensions only take a half hour to put in. If you have fine hair and are constantly wondering if someone can see your extension, tape ins are for you.

Now they are not good for everyone. Hence why we have the option of beads and clip in. The bead extensions are amazing. If you put your hair up a lot they might be a better option for you. (This won't work as well with tape-in.) Clip in extensions are good for someone who does not want to make a financial commitment at all. You pay one time for them and they last for years. You take them in and out as you want. You just will need some practice as they can be a little tricky.

So think about it. Add length, thickness and maybe even some color. The options are endless. No better time to make a change than now. Remember you could be in better hands. Head Rush is not only educated in Babe Extensions, the staff is part of the educators team on the east coast!
